Ok, I feel like a "Dee-dit-dee". I read the date and thought it had said 2007. That explains why buster thought I knew about this event. Maybe I should get a helmet..... BTW Where is the event? other posts say mordor, but I'm not sure where that realm is. Is that in TX? <edit> I found out it is in CO. I swear, one of these days they'll commit me as a danger ot myself. </edit>

It's about 30 miles NW of Loveland. Up on some private property in the Buckhorn Canyon. Gorgeous Rocky Mountain backcountry. Enormous rock outcroppings, aspen groves, pine trees, columbines and indian paintbrush, icy cold mountain creek and pond.
High country camping at it's best. The woods battles are going to be excellent.
The elevation is about 8,000 feet. You will get drunk much faster up here. You will gain a new appreciation for the song "Rocky Mountain High".

I'm really looking forward to seeing Dagorhirrim in my part of the country. Can't wait to share the beauty of Colorado with you !

Black Gate is being held in a forested mountain environment at a high elevation. Daytime highs in August average in the 80’s but nighttime lows could be anywhere from the 50’s and below. Sudden rain storms are a possibility. Please bring plenty of warm clothes, hats, and gloves for your nighttime wanderings. Bring raingear in the event of afternoon storms. Rain can make the temperatures drop dramatically at this elevation. Those participants traveling from out of state should keep in mind that the elevation means a quick sunburn for unprotected skin and possible altitude sickness from overexertion, and insufficient hydration. Be sure to bring sunscreen. A wide-brimmed hat is highly suggested. If lightning is present, the safest place to be is in your car. Make sure your camp, structures and personal effects are safe and secure from high winds and rain.
The terrain is typically rocky in the high country and there are some abrasive plants as well. Knee pads, tough shoes or boots, and even shin guards are advisable.
A typical "must have" packing list looks like this...
# Water: 1.5 gallons per person, per day (for drinking, showering, washing and food). Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. # Enough food/beverages for your entire weekend # First aid kit # Appropriate clothing: light clothes for during the day, warm clothing for at night (including hat and gloves). # Bedding and shelter of some type; A good camp tent is recommended along with warm sleeping bags. # Garbage bags - leave no trace! # Any prescription medications, contact lens supplies (disposables work great), and whatever else you need to maintain your health and comfort in a remote area with no services # Flashlights/headlamps and spare batteries. # Sunscreen lotion and sunglasses # Good closed-toe shoes or boots.
Anyway, just a quick mention of the most important considerations.
Mountain Dagorhir is a lot different than it's flatland sister and you have to be a bit more diligent about your health and safety here. But if you do take care of yourself, as you can see by Cryns pics, you are greatly rewarded with the most beautiful surroundings in Dag!
