So I totes saw this idea posted elsewhere, and I thought I'd bring it to light here and see what kind of a reception it would get.
This is a re-post of an excerpt Sirilay's original post on the Arts & Sciences Guild boards.
Personally, as a patron of the arts (-shameless plug-). I would LOVE to see something like this getting off the ground around here. It feels like our collaborative efforts are sometimes ignored out of convenience or "I don't feel like going to battle with so and so this week" or something. I mean, how many times do you sit and think "Damn! I want to do 'X' and 'person Y' knows how, but I don't know when I'll see him/her, and when I do, if they'll have time/their stuff/etc to tell me/show me how?"
I'd be willing to be a head coordinator for something like this if the rest of the MWDU would be interested in hosting it as a group? No realm-based affiliations, just a conglomerate of Dagorhirrim who want to see other aspects of the game expand.

I find that a very interesting concept and would love to see if it could happen at least once just to see how it would go

Ideally, what I'd like to see would be almost science fair-esque.. where everyone can have displays, maybe schedule lessons/demonstrations for certain desirable skills in the Dagorhir community.
Some things, I wouldn't perhaps see as necessary... (build a basic blue, etc) but if there were needs or desires to see certain skills displayed (plastidip, characterization, etc) then they could easily be incorporated if we got a good heads up so we could either locate folks around here who can handle those specific interests.
Or even perhaps some key examples of not only event coordination, but realm coordination? So many younger realms are popping up, and there's so much veteran experience in the midwest... that I think a lot of groups could benefit from some input or examples of how the realms around here handle their administrative responsibilities.
Percival pointed out how many events are all popping up out here in such a short time, and if we could all pool together ideas and offer insight, it could grow even larger.

The idea sounds good as a whole. I would like to attend something like that so that I could help run my realm more efficiently. Our realm is only one year old and we still have a few bugs to work out. I will mention this to our other officers; I'm sure that they would like to go also.

I think this is a fun and cool idea. it reminds me of the Arts & Science stuff from SCA a little. I think I would like to do a class of some sort. Maybe a plastidip class or a class about fighting and the science behind combat.

I really like the idea. The only issue I could see is things like weapons building. People get really adamant about their way being best. I can foresee some severe butt-hurt issues from that.

That's pretty low class if you are getting upset over a weapons building class. That's just a maturity level issue at that point.
Easy resolve is don't let an nonreputably foamsmith run a class. If someone disagrees tell them they should have signed up to teach their own class, nuff said...issue over.

It never ceases to amaze me how much trash talking and fighting I see over weapon construction methods. Just go ask how to build a sword on the national boards if ya don't believe me.

Still in real life? The internet is a different place. Majority of the sticklers on the national boards don't have the gall to call people out at events. Plus I think we should give us midwesterns some more credit when it comes to this issue. Midwest Dagorhirrim are happy to learn and try new crafts around here. TO be a bit on topic. I should see if Grumio wants to run a period cooking class.

I don't know. You guys should talk to Shatterhaze about running a spear class. Or anyone from Byzantium.

While I love Shatterhaze and all my Byzantium buddies... the question would be, for a day-long (no camping or official fighting) event... would Byzantium be willing to make the drive? I understand their request for Grumio, since he's local. It wouldn't really be much of a 'what-if'.
Anywho, I'm still working on concepts but I've also been face deep in internships, work, and mid-terms were not too long ago. So yar.. I'm dying xD

I absolutely love this idea. My wife and I joined Dag, really, for the arts side of it. Granted we both LOVE handing out some beat downs but we also love developing our characters, building weapons/armor, and generally socializing with like-minded Dagorhirrans.
This idea has my support. Even if KC is a 4 hour drive for me.
