Since I know there is a desire for more A&S activity in the region, I thought this might appeal to the arts and sciences community and wanted to share. These are the rules for the Arts and Sciences tournament at Keep on the Borderlands. This is of course open to everyone regardless if you are there for the Dag side or the Amt side. Keep on the Borderlands – Against the Giants
A&S competition
The system we are using for the Keep on the Borderlands A&S tourney includes 7 categories, each with sub-categories. Items entered into the Keep on the Borderland tourney may have been entered into any kingdom or local tourney in the past. However, if you enter any item that has previously received an award, it is your responsibility to inform the tourney autocrat. Items that have previously been entered into any kind of inter-kingdom competition may not be entered. Also no entrant may enter more than 10 items.
Each item will receive a score from each judge and the scores will be averaged to determine placement in each overall category. Whoever places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in one of these overall categories gets 3, 2, or 1 point respectively. Just like a warskill tourney. An item must score at least 3.0 to place. If multiple entries by the same person in the same category are scored high enough to place, the only the top is counted.
For example, Jim enters in 3 items into the garb overall category that score a 4.5, a 4.4, and a 4.3. Bill enters in 2 items that score a 4.2 and a 4.1. John enters in 1 item which scores a 4.0. No other entries are made. Thus, the placing ends up being…
1st. Jim (4.5)
2nd. Bill (4.2)
3rd. John (4.0)
John could have outright gotten 6 points from this overall category, but only his highest entry was counted.
Each item should have an entry sheet with some basic information about the item. Forms will be provided. It is especially important in the edibles overall category to list all ingredients in case some judges have allergies.

Simple Scoring Rubric:
Average and better:
3.0 – What the average Amtgarder would enter. Also, every legal weapon should get this. If, for example, a piece of garb looks awesome from a distance, give it a 3.0 or above, especially above for the latter. After all, if a tunic is frayed as Oi! 'Ew! Pink Skin! on the inside, then it’s still going to look awesome on the field.
3.5 – Really good for what the average Amtgarder would enter, and what the average artisan would enter in a field that they are just branching out into, but haven’t gotten the hang of yet.
4.0 – What the average artisan would get in a field that they specialize in.
4.5 – What the average MASTER would get in a field that they specialize in.
4.75 – That master rolled a crit.
5.0 – A piece that is perfect, something that no judge can find arealistic piece of criticism.
Below average:
2.5 – An average Amtgarder could have put a lot more time into this. It looks like something he whipped up in a half hour or so.
2.0 – A piece of garb with visible fraying or bits coming off, even when looking at it from 20 feet away and you don’t know that the problems are there. A cooking entry that was made from a mix or slightly modified mix is another example.
1.0 – A cooking entry with bits of foil sticking out. A garb entry that’s essentially a beach-towel sized piece of cloth with a hole cut out. This score shouldn’t be given to someone who has obviously done actual work.
For this event, there will be a bonus for any items that are giant related. This could mean items that are giant sized or very small (as though the users were giants using normal sized items), giant costume items, poetry about giant slaying or whatever. It will be the decision of the tourney autocrat if an item is giant related or not. Judges will not consider the whether an item is giant related or not when judging. Instead the tourney autocrat will add .25 to the final average score of any item that is giant related.
Event Victory Points will be awarded for the Arts and Sciences competition as follows:
Overall Winner: 3 AVPs
Overall Second Place: 2 AVPs
“Best in Show” – Highest average for a single item. – 1 AVP
“Tooltips” – Judges Choice of best description of an item and its creation, either on paper or orally. – 1 AVP
