The Well of Tears
Recent history
Lord Ignatius, Master of the White Hawks, had laid the last stone in place more then seventy years past. With the power of his god and several other clerics of the faith he had sealed the vile well that had caused so much pain to all those near it. Close to 200 miles east and a little north of the port city of Torengel in the Shadow Mountains is where the abomination resides. Though the well was far outside the bounds of his seat of power it was well within his zone of responsibility as a holy knight of the Church of Adon.
The well’s waters were of the deadliest of poisons and the effects of that poison were far more horrible than any of the legends of the place let on. The waters of the well would kill within minutes if imbibed but the secondary effect was far worse. After a few hours of passing away the unlucky soul who had drank of the well would rise again as an undead abomination. Once, almost 500 years ago, nearly an entire army was wiped out by the accursed well. Many had drank deeply of the well and they had all returned to un-life and killed their once brothers in arms. Few escaped that bloody day and had then spread word of the well to all they encountered.
In modern times the well has become somewhat of a myth to most living very far from it but a few remember its unholy might. It is said that if a member of the undead drinks from the well then their power shall be multiplied ten fold and their rotten flesh would turn to iron. It is also said that Liches and evil spell casters long to have water from the well to create greater undead servants and have a powerful component for their vile spells.
The Battle for the Well of Tears
The re-animated remains of a certain evil lord wishes to claim the well of tears and tear asunder the wards guarding it. He has gathered all of the evil forces he could muster with gold, assurances of power or the promise to wreak death upon thousands. His plans are to take all the water from the well that he may and poison the water supply of nearby port city of Toringel. If he succeeds he would then have an un-dead army of vast proportions. This Lich-Lord is quickly approaching the well with his forces of darkness and will be there soon……
A few wise and beneficent people have heard of his plans and wish to stop the murdering of an entire city. The un-dead threat to the surrounding region would be a bane to the living for years. The forces of light are traveling to the well in haste in order to beat the Dark Lord to his bounty.
The Well of Tears location
The Well of Tears is located on an island above a dark and deep chasm. It only has two narrow bridges that go to it; one from the north and the other from the south. The well has been bricked and mortared over and magically enchanted to repel the undead but the incantations have been broken by the Lich-Lord. The north and south sides of the cliffs at the well are separated by many miles of high, intraversable peaks. This makes one army flanking the other impossible. The battle will be fought head-on, tooth and nail, sword and claw for the future of the region.
Ancient History
The well is said to have come about when an ancient, evil god was destroyed and his remains were taken and buried in the mountains by his followers. This seed of evil has flowered into much suffering for more than 5,000 years. They say that only by the power of Adon himself may it be cleansed.
