With leather armor, according to the rules the leather must be a minimum thickness of 3/16. Is there a minimum thicknes for studded leather?

There is no minimum for studded. But, the spacing between studs must be with-in 1/2 inch.

Most people still use the 3/16 rule and use the studs for decoration, because armor starts to get heavy and expensive if the studs are that close together.

I disagree. Cheap dome studs and thin leather are the lightest legal armor materials. I know a guy in Idaho who has a suit like this that weighs less than 5 lbs in the torso, which covers him from neck to below the arse. he also has arms and legs out of the same crap. I bet the whole suit is under ten lbs. It is not any thing like real armor. Oi! 'Ew! Pink Skin!, my motorcycle jacket weighs more. But it counts as armor acording to the rules. I think it's totaly cheesey and I wouldn't wear thAt kind of crap. It shows you what a clever jerk can do with the rules, though. K

But, most cheap dome studs are not legal metals. Thus not legal armor.

Once at rag I passes brigandine that was mode of cloth and pennies. They sew the pennies between two layers in a grid like fashion. It was so light lol but hard to make I've tried!

As not everyone has the money to purchase 3/16" leather in the quantity needed. I was thinking of using a thinner leather, but keeping the workmanship to the highest level I could. However, if someone would like to purchase the leather for me or just send me a good set of leather armor, that would be acceptable as well.

Cheap dome studs are steel that has been nickle plated. They are COMPLETELY legal. If you had problems with them, you could use the brass ones, which weigh and cost the same. Well, they may be a little heavier, but at the thickness they make the studs from, it's undetectable. But I don't know why I'm even givving out this info. I hate people in cheater armor. Make your armor from heavy leather and harden it. You look bad posterior and it'll last a long, long time. Also if you check often at Tandy.com you'll find armor grade leather goes on sale every couple months for about half price. A side is enough to make a suit of armor for an average size dude. They go for about 90bucks on sale. K

How much leather you want? I have some I might be willing to part with, to the right person of course.

i got a full side of 12-13oz leather at tandy last month for 75 also on cheapness of armor I've seen is a piece of cotton that had individual 16 guage chain links 1/2in apart at the start that the person got lazy and spaced them out further and further the more he completed the shirt and it was called legal

Orrin - I appreciate the offer for the leather, but I know you need it for some of your projects.
Jackyl - Thanks for the info.

By the rules, you can stud fishnet stalkings and call it armor. As long as the studs remain close enough together.

Also when getting you leather if you can get a dealers discount it helps allot, also maybe chipping in with a group if all you want is a Brest plate.
