Hello All,
I would like to consider myself a new player even though I haven't attended a practice yet. I live down the road in Lawrence KS and would like to start coming up to Grandview to join in your practices.
I am almost finished with my first weapon. A 5 foot red. I have been all over forums seeking construction advice, and have even spoken with some Dominion members.
I am a little frustrated right now with my stabby tip. I would like to know what the weapon checkers look for in a passable thrusting tip. I know its not supposed to pass .5 inch through a 2.5 inch hole but I am confused at how much foam it takes to make it passable. Does it need to end up looking like Q-tip. I was basically using Guntar's method but I dont know if its squishy enough. (my open cell foam is currently taken from a nerf ball...i dont have marine foam)
Any advice would be most helpful. I would rather try to fix the problem now, then drive up to Grandview and not have it pass.
Thanks alot, and I hope to meet many of you in the near future!

All of the daggers I've constructed are made of nerf balls in some capacity. I've never had a problem in using them I'll go ahead and re-post the way I personally check green/thrusting tips. First check point - construction. Is it stable? Is it built to the spec of the template? If it's a chunk of open cell held onto the sword tip via the cover effin' fail.. lol Second check - I usually palm the stabbing tip (if it's not -too- wide) to see if when I press down my palm (NEVER use fingertips - thumbnails I can't stress that enough to some people) to see if I can feel core, and to ensure that it has some progressive resistance to it. If it just collapses under my hand and I can feel straight down to the blue foam base without it having any 'give' - then it fails. Third Check - if it passes through that set, I usually stab myself in the forehead repeatedly for the hit test. If it's a larger weapon (reds, spears, glaives, etc) then I'll check it on myself first and then check it on a back. The back isn't really for a "hit" test (though it's always nice to hear second opinions) but it's to ensure larger weapons being thrust for green don't have their tips bend over sideways and on a second hit deliver just straight blue foam core. If it bends, but bounces back to its original shape then it's good. If it folds over and -stays- that way, then we have a construction issue that needs to be looked into. The rest of the thread concerning green/stabbing weapons is located here: midwestdagorhir.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=craft&action=display&thread=869Hope this helps!
