(I know this is very long but I pray that anyone in our realm on these boards to please take the time to read it. Plus I don't post a lot anymore so this just makes up for my absence!) ;D
My Beloved Ravenwood,
Ours is a country blessed with freedom and honor. The love I have for our realm is as deep and resonant as the ancient elven forest that we derived our name from. A land where a person is free to be and live as whoever they want without unfair restrictions or rules. Laws in our land are very lax and free of overbearing pretense our political intrigue.
For these reasons and many more I will fight for Ravenwood for all my days and keep her in my heart. I shall do everything in my power to increase the honor and goodness of our realm. I shall hope to influence open-mindedness and acceptance among all the peoples of our realm and I hope everyone in our realm has the same motives.
Be it orcs, elves, dwarves or even Daemons I hope we all have the spirit of brotherhood, commitment, teamwork, loyalty and love ever at the front of our minds towards our countrymen. I certainly do.
I have seen a problem with having such a weak central government however and I find little happy medium between a Confederacy and a monarchy. We want all peoples within our country to be equal and I still concur with this but it makes little sense in the way of reality.
I say we keep our "realm" exactly as is. I love it like this. Peoples can come to us for a place to fight or brotherhood with out any "pushy" leader types. People can be Dogs or angels and gain acceptance easily in our realm. Peasant or ex-king alike are all welcome as long as they have respect for our citizens. I will try to keep this the same in all people.
Addressing the problem of disorganization has been hard for me. I don't want to be overbearing about things but someone has to organize things. Someone has to make it so others can feel achievements and worth.
I'll admit that stick jocks have little care to be "knights" or "barons" or "soldiers" or "priests" but some people have a much better time when role playing is added into the mix. Some people love to role play, I know I do!(I'm right in between a stick jock and a role player.)
What I am about to say has no bearing whatsoever on the "realm" as a whole but it does have bearing on volunteers that wish to be a part of something.
The whole reason I am begining this is because of teamwork. I started into Dagorhir years ago and I had to make it to events on my own. I had to learn the hard way about garb, weapons, armor and all other things intrinsic to Dagorhir or LARPing in general.
When you have a co-ordinated group of individuals that work together it becomes easier to all these things and do more then one or a few could ever do. You have a bigger pool of co-operative creativity and labor.
To be honest LARPing does take work. Making Garb, armor, weapons, setting up camp, getting to events, organizing campsites, weapons check and general participation in the whole society of Dagorhir.
In order to have efficient "co-operation and planning however you need people who organize and are listened to. People who can give respectful(I emphasize this word) instruction and direction in order to make a better experience for all those involved.
This is not something that I can do with our realm as it stands and as I stated before I will fight to keep our "realm" how it is.
As it stands our realm cannot have nobles because all men are equal. This means no Knights. No experienced participants that officially get respect, recognition and reward for ability's they have and service given in name of our realm. To some this is a faulty system, to me it only needs a different outlet for those people who deserve respect.
No one in my opinion should be forced to respect anyone, qualities one might respect in one individual they may find terrible in a different one. Not everyone respects the same things is simply what I mean. We as people generally have a medium of things we respect and that is what I'm about, moderation.
I could not allow this sort of progress within my unit because it is a purely military unit and it (Epic)fails at equality. This is simply the way a fighting unit works, a rigid hierarchy in order to allow training of soldiers and combat effectiveness. Not everyone cares if their unit can walk on the field and make a big difference and that is perfectly acceptable with me but it is not my opinion of things(I am part stick jock and also my "fantasy" is to slaughter my foe).
I have now decided to put DreadWood company second and start a "Protectorate".
We(Dreadwood Company) have cleared the immediate outskirts of the Dreadwood of danger and I am claiming Lordship of all immediate lands. I will be Lord Protector of these lands and our purpose will be to instill co-operation within ourselves and fight ever for the betterment of our realm. This sill be an organized outlet for all who need it.
Note
(By "claiming Lordship" I don't mean of the Stockton province, I mean it in an imaginary strictly roleplay sense. In an area around the Dreadwood which geographically speaking is a good ways from Illirya(Stockton provincial capital city state)
People will gain rewards for their efforts. Help will be given to those with aspirations. Assistance to all those in whatever field they wish to take up.
I am starting a church for all would be Paladins, clerics, monks and priests.
This will be a different sort of church however, it will be "user Friendly" so to speak in that people can bring in any sort of god they wish.
Gods will be referred to as "Monarchs" of specific portfolio's or several portfolio's at once.
Demi Gods will be Saints.(Clerics, paladins, monks, friars etc. etc. can reach this status)
There will be guidelines in order to be better recognized for their efforts within their church and all ideas by religious groups will be heard out.
Basically the first members of the Church will build it from the ground up based on their preference and Roleplaying want. They will of course no be able to begin as a Saint but is it worth it to call yourself a Lord or a Knight is no one cares? Usually Not. Someone in the realm of course could be whatever they wanted.
(I will police diffrent things in order to make sure we are working in the same direction in a "Practical" manner.
Example: To be considered a Saint here are a few Pre-Reqs
Healing poem memorized
First aid CPR Certified
Adequate first aid kit at battles/events
This allows a person to have a practical application of their roleplaying fun and benefit the realm at the same time. A cleric should be able to heal as should a Paladin.
A knight might have these Pre-Reqs:
X amount of events attended
Armor making ability
Certain level of martial prowess with selected weapon
weapon making abilities.
Etc etc.
This makes it where your "Character" has a specific function that benefits everyone else so you get to be more like the Character your aiming for.
I will also establish different "civilian" ranks and duties. We have a seamstress that is game to help everyone out for low prices(A good one) and this was her idea.
She says since we will have families trying to attended then we can work together to make it an adequate environment for kids of all ages.
We can work together to have food for events at lower prices.
We can work together so weapons/armor can be available for cheaper to all people.
Remember if more people work together you can get the "bulk" effect, which means things get cheaper.
I will take on apprentices for armor construction(Knights especially)
Some of us(including me) don't have a lot of money and making things at discount is a good way to go. I want to facilitate this.
I have practical knowledge in almost every area a LARPer would need and I want to share and help all that will adhere to a standard guideline for learning. My time is precious and I hate to waste it.
Anyone wishing to help with this dream of having a co-operative, helpful group within our realm let me know. It may never get a member but it comforts me to know the option is open to all those who need more then a Lassiez faire approach to the whole game.
One last thing; In no way will this "project" EVER do anything to undermine our realm, it is intended to help and I will do everything in my power to make our realm prosper for the people belonging to this project and the people of this realm.
In my next several posts I will speak on the following subjects as briefly as possible;
Military/militia
The Church
Ideas for the Project.(*Hint* haven't got a name for this "Protectorate" yet.)
