alright, i'm looking at making some new weapons for Rag. two blue katanas and a red double sided greatsword. the cores for the katanas are 40" long 3/4 inch pvc. if possible, i want to make the katanas with stabbing tips. i haven't figured out the size of the red sword yet, but my initial idea is about 24" wide at the flat and 52" long. so a 48" long core, and then add pommel and foam.....any suggestions as to how i should go about it?

I would suggest bending PVC with a stove. Then afterwards just building a normal one sided sword on the bent core. Here's some instructions on how I made one. I'm not sure how good you are with working with heat but electric stoves work wonders. I made a 6 ft dai-katana with one. -Take the PVC and plan how much of a bend you want. -Next have the stove turned to a heat where it's not too hot but not too cold (med-med hi) -Run the PVC above the stove burner, not touching it though just right above it. (I would recommending holding the PVC with a dish towel or something to protect your hand) -While the PVC is hot and flexible bend it into desired shape slowly, so you can get the right curve. -When cooling DO NOT use cold water or any substance. let the PVC cool at room tempature naturally. Here's a picture of my friend with my Dai-katana I made. I had a blue katana too, they are fun. Lots of fun when they have stabbing tips. ;D

hmmmm.....i'll have to see which one i want to go with, curved or not.....by any chance do you know the benefits between curved or straight katanas? and any ideas on the stabbing part?
btw....that is the most wicked Dag katana i've ever seen.

Thanks! Thats one of the few weapons I'll claim as good that I've made.
Now on to your question. Curved and straight, there is no difference from what I can see. Curved look cooler though! Haha
I'm not a fan of one sided weapons because throwing wrap shots you need both sides to be striking. As far as stabby tips go some kind of sturdy open cell works. Stabby tips aren't my forte but worth it if you can make a good one. So many kill shots you can do that you wouldn't have realized.

stabys are a grate thing to have as far as making one it can be a bit of a pain on a longer sword but some good open cell or take a mini nerf ball and cut it the way you want it to look

Nice sabre, igit.
Aodhfignsnghaonfnnnn...nnn...n, I hope the "24" wide at the flat" part of your original post is a typo and you intended to write "4" wide at the flat". I'd use 1/2" Square fiberglass for the core for that one, if you can get it. It's da bomb. I think bestdagstuff.com is carrying it now... I have a couple of min reds built on the stuff and they're just brutal.
The katanas sound awesome in that they'll be historically lengthed, but unfortunate because they'll be too long for most people to dual effectively and less capable than a 44 or 48" version of same when used two-handed. Curved PVC is slightly (if done the right way, like Skeith said, regarding the cooling at room temp) weaker than straight PVC. At 40", unless you're a beast, you may not notice on 3/4" Sch 40. Stabbing tips are your friends.

maybe i typed it wrong, i'm not sure......i'll try to clear it up some if i can. or fail miserably. ok, the striking surface will be somewhere around 4 inches wide. the sword itself will be about 52 inches long, from pommel to tip. i'm not sure about making a stabbing tip for it, but that would probably be pretty cool and unexpected. the entire width of the sword (the flat, non-striking surface) would be about 24 inches....though i may make it wider just for the heck of it. hopefully that helps.

You're trying to say that your sword has a blade that is, say, 2 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and some length. But then you say that the flat of the blade is 24" wide. Maybe you could post a simple Paint illustration of what you mean? I'm picturing something weird and ax-like...
If you want a "wide" bladed sword, try adding a couple extra layers of bluefoam to a standard 4-blade-layer redsword design. That'll give you a blade some 1.75" thick and ~6" wide across the flat. That's plenty wide.
And remember, the wider the blade is, the more it'll catch the air and "sail", which, with a red, often leads to bad headshots.
