In the time ive been in dag i have never seen a wooden sword hilt so i hope they are legal.
I am finding that the handle design on my keg sword is not up to my fighting style it is just too small and has no form to it meaning that I lose the sword too often. Im fixing it now with an extra hammer handle nice pretty smooth wood handle that fits snuggly to the fiberglass core. It will be pinned so it can't spin on the core and waxed with beeswax to increase the gripability. The hilt will extend from pommel to blade with no gaps after a reblade (its almost time for that again uggh). I will post preassembly and post assembly pics later.

I agree very cool Pizurk. I'm excited to see how it feels next time I see you. Looks like it might add some nice weight.
Also it is legal to use wood and bone as handles. Only rules I could think of would be wood cores needing to be duct taped but this is just a handle so no biggie.

im kind of surprized that i haven't seen any tricked out wood or bone handles them being legal i would expect them to be more popular but most of the time it is the soft squishy rope wrap handles shaped with duct tape or foam.

Odds are the reason we don't see them more often is that a *good* wooden grip takes a lot of work and most people are too worried about the blade being good to spend much time on the grip, and with many swords barely surviving a year a lot of people may find this to be a waste....

I bought a keg sword with the idea that i would have a good core to reblade. It is just recently that i have realised a good number of the times i drop the sword are because the handle was too small for my grip I don't keep the sword in a death grip so when it gets hit from the reverse side it flys out of my hand.

oh i must now lament i used the sword with the new handle today and loved it but i get home to find that it has cracked down half the length so for now i will wrap it in cloth tape and use it till it dies ill try again with a diferent peice for my other sword that i just got the core back for.

there's also those of us who just aren't good enough craftmen to make something like that so have settled for something easier to mold.
