I was bored and throwing ideas around in my head.
Here is a random one that got me thinking.
What about a Knitted Leather Armor? It would give full flexability, the required 3/16 in thickness and still be good on weight. The idea is to get 1/8 in strips of leather, knit them. And have a thin soft layer of leather underneath to protect you from the chafeing. This would bring the leather into the required 3/16 in thickness.
The question then becomes. How big or small do the stiches need to be?
So would the size then be determined by a similar scale as the Chain mail?
like no more than a 1/2 in - 3-8 in hole?
This is not something that I would probably do. Just curious if it is even possible.

Hope I got the idea right but when you said knitted I though weaved. There's how the strips laid in my mind. Then riveted to a larger sheet of leather underneath. If so, as long as the leather together meets the minimum thickness then yes. This armor would work.

if your gona wave it, just go with a 1/16 and set a good ring in everyother loop set, adn make combination armor, would save on weight, and be very flexiable.
