I'm curious about how the capturing of slaves will work, as I know there are multiple people wanting to wander around and capture people to sell to the slave market. Oddayin had a suggestion I think would be easily workable. When attempting to capture and subdue a slave, yell "Subdual" as you swing, much in the same way you might call "RED" or a "Blue" from behind. I think it would work well and keep everything fairly simple. Just fight the way you normally would but don't forget to call subdual. If you forget to, it's the same as normal damage and will result in you failing to capture the person. Thoughts?

As far as the auction goes mehran is soon to post rules. I can tell you as her slaver partner that the slave to be must agree (irl the mundane person) must agree to be a slave. Since this is an in character event you should work out your own means to taking your slave in RP. but you need to have talked to them out of character and know that it is cool with them.

That's all well and good, but I'm talking about a standardized system for everyone to use to capture other fighters to sell as "Slaves". As much "fun" as it would be to go around to EVERYONE and ask their permission, I'm looking for something general to be put up in the rules for everyone to read and understand.

I agree with Kurai. (Edited because Eldrin and possibly others might not understand my basic post) This is what I meant by "only certain types of people will volunteer to be slaves." Not all personas are going to agree/want to be someone's slave. With the current rule set slaving is going to only appeal to personas that would not mind playing out the act of slavery as a volunteer role. The way this event is trying to be ran the rule set of slaving might be possible. (I would suggest looking into the rule of K.I.S.S though) If we are trying to go true RP, people would be put into slavery "against their will" IMO. In fantasy and other games such as Darkon has slavery rule. I don't see pride becoming an issue because it's your character in a fantasy world setting. We are playing a game and games have sometimes fun rules. My knowledge of slavery in Darkon as I've been told by Odd is, you can capture fighters once they are slain. This allows you to have someone act as your minion with the ability to only carry out basic tasks. This does not include fighting for you. The system seems to work well and slaves can be freed by raiding parties. A slave is freed by simply having an ally come up to the fighter and touching them with a weapon. This system has worked for other games and seems it might work at the DT event. Of course acquiring slaves would also give you the ability of becoming a slave yourself. I honestly feel if the event coordinators and attendees of the event do not feel comfortable running a system like this then it's better left out. This is my 2 CP and I don't really care to get involved in making any sort of rule set or debate of how the event should be ran. Just wanted to give a suggestion as a possible event attendee when brainstorming.

I am pretty sure that my sexier better half (Mehran) has that base covered. She has almost everything covered to cya on this one. I will see if she can get the rules up soon.

I think having involuntary slavery is a bad idea. Reasons;
1. "True RP"-In true RP, especially on forums etc. it is common courtesy to respect other people's fantasies "in game" by not over-powering them with self-perceived high-levelness ( whatever that equates to in reality) or Deus Machina. "True" RP in working order is actually the shared, agreed upon fantasy of the people involved. This continues over to Dag, people, if they don't see themselves as slaves (or capable of becoming slaves for varying reasons), should not be forced, which brings me to my second point...
2. Actual slavery can only be enforced by violence. If people are wanting to go have fun with their friends, but a slave master wants a slave, and the person did not agree and does not want to RP that way, how will it be enforced? Our only true method to enforce non-voluntary slavery would be to threaten dismissal from the event, I can think of no other way of keeping a non-voluntary "slave" in line. Sure, there may be other ways that are less effective, but you have to ask yourself, "does the event be successful where noobs to vets can have fun and interact, or will it be someones personal playland where they can inflate their own ego and sense of self-worth even more? What would you do if I were your slave, there were no rule for slave enforcement, and I refused to be a slave? What could you do? Seems a super slippery slope to me, but I know certain people don't mind being morally ambiguous at the cost of others for self-gratification, that is why I oppose it. I think most reasonable people would agree that it is best not to place a group of people on a slippery slope, especially in the woods, and with drinking! Danger cocktail right there.
I agree that the current rules for voluntary slavery only are appropriate. I do admit that non-voluntary slavery is interesting, and was my first conception of what was going to happen, but organizers, showing greater wisdom than myself, realized only voluntary slavery would be acceptable for this type of event to be inclusive and fun to everyone. I am glad they are smarter than me and thought of a way to included slavery, make it fun, and make a profit for the slaves too. Is their a rule that states the slave's master cannot order the slave to hand over their gold? I assume that is common sense, but someone might abuse the loop-hole if their is one.
Also, what do you mean only certain types of people will volunteer to be slaves?

Just wanted to give a suggestion as a possible event attendee when brainstorming. That's not too bad of a way to do it. I was wondering who all would want to become slaves anyways, ya know? There would need more mechanic work to the system though. Like, for instance, would a person be captured whilst walking to respawn, or would they be required to lay down dead for a one minute count out loud, and only during that count can they be enslaved. Those things we need to be pretty clear. Likewise, I think the coordinators will need to decide where they will need to draw the line on some things for the sake of attendance. If attendance isn't a big deal, then they can add all the crazy stuff they like, but if it is, one might need to be fairly conservative. I know I have heard more than one person say they aren't coming because, "That's not really my thing." Which is cool, that is understandable. Just depends how big we want it to get I suppose. I'll prolly support it as long as its ran fairly, RPing is good, stick jocking is good, its all gravy to me. And yes, I probably would be in an abolitionist raiding party. Fredrick Douglas rules! And Driab could be Harriet Tubman!

Ya, I think Mehran's rule, "Must be out-of-character consenting to in-character slavery (player agrees to captivity)." is a good one. Otherwise, I forsee all the noobs stuck in slavery all weekend and possibly not having as much fun as they would if they had a choice in the matter.

That's what I was trying to prevent, Ilyia. Thank you for reassuring me that I am accomplishing my goal of universal fun. Plus, I am not sure how much fun I would have the whole weekend doing that. Might be fun some, but it would get old quick having to guard my whole unit and keep them together so they don't end up slaves.
