Far and Away - Very metal feel to this song. I'm envisioning some kind of wailing vocals over it, or conversely, death metal growling. Seems pretty typical of a Metal song. play a lot, play a lot fast, and ramp it up to 11. Seems really busy at the moment, might try and put some dynamics into it, but overall a good song.
Feed the Dogs - yes, Metal. Seriously good music here. The only thing that can ruin these songs is bad vocals. Once the tracks are mastered they should really bring out the crispness of the guitar. One thing I can't find amidst the muffled recording of pre-master is the bass guitar. I can hear it when the guitar goes into solo, but when the guitar is chomping rhythm it gets drowned out.
Idle hands - at this point I'm kind of Metal fatigued. I'm looking for some diversity of music here, maybe something lighter, something more musical and less headbang my face off. Don't get me wrong, these songs are good individually, but they sound pretty typical of Metal songs when strung together. I don't see much real originality here, just crunchy guitar licks and thumping drums. Of the three, I think this is the weakest one. Still, its EP filler and good for headbanging. I mean, you can't put 12 "Stairway to Heaven' on a CD, you have to put some "Four Sticks" on the B sides.
Step 1 - I like the diversity of these guitar licks compared to the Idle Hands. This is just some raw guitar tracks as well, so I bet it'd sound better with the rest of the band behind it. Idle hands just seemed like it had no musical direction beyond the guitar riff.
Overall, the four tracks are heavy on the heavy, if you know what I mean. If I could give some advice as a musician, it'd be to celebrate diversity. You have the hard metal songs down pat, now study some ballads and some slower songs. Mix up the instrumentation a little, possibly multitracking some different distortions or mix in an acoustic song. Listen to some AC/DC and break up the thundering guitars with some silence. There's a lot of music in what you don't play. I think you guys will do good once you put it all together and produce it well.

weve got other stuff thats paced a bit different but we are a metal band. and it sounds alot different with vocals. everything is recorded live right now so its a bit hard to multitrack stuff. this was just some of the stuff i was throwing out there whyle we get everything set right in the studio and whyle our singer gets everything finished on his end. ive been listening to ac/dc for about 30 years and if youve ever seen them live they have quite a bit of the thundering guitar. we acualy take quite a bit from them as a band they are a big influence on us. do you have anything recorded? what do you normaly listen to?
p.s.and does every band have to have a balad? cant i just bash everybodys brains in with my guitar?
