Starting planning, this is the thread for it.
April 15th-17th, 2011
Got 3 campsites I'm looking into currently. Here's the listing, lemme know opinions, etc.:
Knob Noster in Missouri
www.mostateparks.com/knobnoster/camp.htm
Pros
-24 person cabins
-More centralized locale
-Has infirmary and Dining hall
-No Alcohol policy
-In Missouri(easier to GET said alcohol)
Cons
-Expensive
-$15 required entry fee
-Need 70 pre-regs to use this site
-Have to pay electric, propane, and trash on cabins
-I don't have a way to check this campsite out before the event to ensure it works.
Crawford State Park
kdwp.state.ks.us/news/State-Parks/Locations/Crawford
Pros
-Cheapest Campsite
-Been used by SCA
-10 electric campsites
-Could still use $10 entry fee
-Very nice shelterhouse
-Nice showerhouse
-Flush Toilets!(Thank the gods)
-Large Firepit for bonfire
-Air-conditioned cabins for an extra fee
-I can visit this one.
Cons
"Alcohol policy"-Don't ask, don't tell
-Not sure on size of campsite yet, though they assured me it would work.
-"Family Oriented" though we should be separated so noise SHOULDN'T be an issue.
-Need 21 pre-regs
Camp Hammond
topekaymca.org/site/ymca-locations/camp-hammond-.html
Pros
-Has lodge that seat 100 and has industrial kitchen
-Has cabins for rent, non AC
-Has had SCA events there before
-Lots of space
-Beach for swimming
-Good bathrooms
-Canoe rental available
-I can visit this one as well
-Showerhouses
-Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Hiking Trails, and Fishing
-Tornado shelters(shouldn't need em, but useful to know.
Cons
-Expensive
-Have to have $15 entry fee to use
-Need 48 pre-regs with lodge, 40 without
-Damage Deposit of $50
"Alcohol policy"-Don't ask, don't tell
-No styrofoam
-Not centralized, closer to KC
If anyone else finds camps they want me to check into, lemme know.. but this is what I have so far.
Other camps and my notes so far:
Smithville: Would be good, SCA has used it, not centralized, but a very nice place. Haven't heard back from their organizer yet.
Fort Scott Campground: Technically, an RV park, more centralized, but had paved camping sites because of RVs
Clinton State Park: Very willing to work with us, but costs per camper instead of flat fee as well as we would have to bring in portapotties
Cross Timbers: No group camping
Elk City State Park: Sending Literature, said they may be able to work with us.
Hillsdale Lake: No group camping
Melvern Lake: Not a bad place, but no battlefield and it was really hard to find the damned place. Also in the middle of nowhere.
