Apon the request of one of my realms administrators(Sven), I am posting The House of Martok's 4 Core principles.
Honor: 1st core principle of The House of Martok
There are many principles of The House. The 1st for good reason is Honor. Fighters who show great honor in battle, both at practices, as well as events, gain the respect of the fighters around them. How does someone displays honor in Dagorhir? Many ways.
1. Always take honest damage from an opponent. I.E. No Rhino hide-ing. We all know the Term. I know all my fighters are consciously vigilant in making sure to take any honest damage accordingly. I only invite fighters to the house if they show that quality, and others. But Ask Goomba and Adintel... In cases of dispute with an opponant, all HoM fighters are to immediately and politely give the opponent the kill, or scratch of the strike, or or score point, what ever the case is and get an HoM Officer. In co-ordination with the HoM officer the fighter is to do the same action and be so decisive in victory there is no dispute. Be it winning against a fighter, bombing a base, taking a flag or Killing a VIP... ect. ect. ect. ...This also means that all house members need to immediately call any questionable shots... E.I. hand on weapon, foot on ground, neck, head, light. ect. ect. ect.... It will be frustrating at times. To take a death on a light you didn't call right off, or give up a successful base bomb because a guy hit you right after you scored and called it before. And I am sure there are other ways it can be hard to hold oneself to this standard. However the people around you will notice. And that is the kind of honor fighters respect.
2. Know and Conform to the Manual of Arms, I recommend all my fighters have a HARD copy of the Manual of Arms(INCLUDING any and all Ragnarok Updates), and look them over from time to time. Read them. Know them. Understand the underlying reason and meaning of the rule and its role in the game. All the rules are governed by Safety, Playability, and Realism, and are prioritized in said order. Operate in accordance with the rules, not trying to find a way to bend the rules.
3. Respect The Herald!!! This is one that I will admit that the realm of StormWrath is bad with at practices. The House is better then the average, but even we need work on this. Heralds are essential for the efficiency, playability, fluidity, and fairness of Dagorhir. They are performing a noble civil service for the game and its fighters... I.E. YOU!!! The least you can do is give him/her the respect of your undivided attention while they are speaking. But respecting the herald is more then that. It is also realizing that what the herald says in battle goes with out question or delay. NEVER argue with the herald. Talk to the herald after the game, talk to a HoM Officer, but don't disagree with the herald. Also, this means not trying to be a back seat herald, so to speak. If you are a fighter, don't make a call that is of the power of the herald. This is essential to the fairness of the game. It must be a person from the outside making calls, not a fighter.
4. Be vigilant in safety. If your hit accidentally hits someone, make sure they are ok. If you are close to someone who is hurt and can help, do so. Be fast to volunteer get water or help someone up. Consciously do everything you can to make sure you do not injure anyone. Take safety seriously.
5. The Final and most important way to show honor in a Dagorhir Battle: Sportsmanship. This is the main and central core of Dagorhir Honor. So much so that EVERY thing I have already said are examples of good sportsmanship. But Sportsmanship covers more. Sportsmanship also means being a good loser and a humble winner. Being a good Sportman means not wining and berating teammates when you lose or cite excuses to the other side. It also means not showboating or being rude to the other side. In American football at the end of every game the two side shake hands and look each other in the eye and say good game. I think that the house should have this mentality.
This is the Honor Standard I hold myself to. It is the standard that I hold The House to.
Commitment: The 2nd Core Principle of The House of Martok
Commitment is a vital characteristic expected of all fighters of the HoM. The House is committed to training REGIONALLY and in time will be known NATIONALLY as respected Dagorhir fighters. Quite simply put, it is impossible to gain the respect of the Mid-West Dagorhir Veterans, Heroes, and Leaders without a great level of commitment.
Commitment to Dagorhir, Stormwrath, and the House: Commitment to always work on improving oneself, be it in fighting ability, tactics, foam smithing, garb, or in other areas in Dagorhir. Commitment to the core principles, philosophies, and tactics of the House are expected.
It is not easy to be an member of the HoM! It takes strong commitment to be a member. The House expects 110% effort of every fighter in all aspects of Dagorhir. This means that fighters are expected to attend Every practice when able. It is understood that situations can arise that must take precedence over Dagorhir. This is okay. However, there are plenty of practices in our realm. Two a week are official realm practices, as well as tactical drills practices that are hosted by the HoM, Black Guard, and or The Argent Free Wolves. Practices are needed to achieve and maintain an elite level of ability that we want all the HoM fighters to have. Facts are facts, if you want to be considered a strong contender or Elite Dagorhir fighter you have to be committed to the craft of melee weapons training, Dagorhir, the Realm, and the HoM.
Service: The 3rd Core Principle of The House of Martok
Service is an integral component to the success our sport of Dagorhir, our realm of StormWrath, and our unit... The House of Martok. Service is needed and expected of all leaders. There are many ways a fighter can provide needed service.
1. The service of water &/or food. As House members you are all aware of how physically demanding our sport can be. Heat exhaustion is a real possibility. So is working yourself to a point of needing sustenance. It does not take much. A case of bottle water. A bag of grapes or reeses pb cups. But these little things help the realm as a whole, and bringing these things brings Honor, to the fighter and the unit they are a part of.
2. Cleaning the sitting area and the battle Field. While it often a thankless job, to pick up trash or run around picking up arrows and javelins, it is a very noble service. It is also one of the few ways to serve the sport. It helps give the community that we are a part of a good opinion of us. It helps the realm by keeping our fellow fighters and friends from losing weapons. I can tell you that Nemes usually picks up the cigarette butts and throws them away. That.... is service.
3. Taxi Service. Alot of times we have friends that dont come to practice, simply because they do not have a ride to practice. The more people at practice the better we do. It is obvious how invaluable providing rides can be to the realm.
4. Loading, Unloading, setting up and picking up equipment and supplies. Realm members that help unload and load weapons and supplies, or help set up the field or pick it up with the administrators, greatly help with the efficiency of our operation. This is a great way to help get the ball rolling so that we can do what we came out there to do.... FIGHT.
5. Recruiting. This is a great help. Spread the word. Get your friends and family out to a practice. This helps boost our ranks and is obviously a great service to the sport and the realm. We have yet to meet many of the Houses and Stormwrath's best fighters.
6. Heralding. By now I am sure all my fighters understand that heralds are helpful and needed for the fairness, playability, and fluidity of the game. Nuff said.
7. Camera Work. Photography, Cinematography, and Video Editing are great tools for both training as well as recuitment. This also happens to be a weak area in our realm. I totally understand though. It is hard to stand at the side lines and record the action. But while giving up the round is hard, the benefits are great in deed. Let us be thankful to the person with the camera.
8. Foam Smithing is a great way to serve the house and the realm. Knowing the Houses fighters have and can make their own weapons is a great relief to Nemes and Myself. While the House does have a decent arsenal and any House member can use any HoM weapon, the supply is limited. Plus it is a service to the realm in a way. The more weapons on the field the better.
9. Garb Tailoring. The ability and act of helping a fellow House member or fellow citizen of Stormwrath getting decent garb going is invaluable. When the house has a uniform look it gives a level of intimidation and distinction. Garb helps the fighter to immerse themselves into the sport. It helps our realm have a redefined and "period" look that both helps recruitment, as well as helps us to be considered a viable realm of Dagorhir.
10. Teaching is vital to the growth of the fighters in our Unit, as well as our Realm as a whole. I am sure you have heard it before, when one of us grows better, we ALL get better. Teaching can be small. Just let your friend know how it is you usually get him. Let us all help each other when and where we can. Be it in combat, in foamsmithing, in heralding, or in any other area of Dag.
While this is all that I can think of at the moment, I am welcome to anyones suggestions on new and beneficial ways to serve Dagorhir, StormWrath, or our unit.
Teamwork is the 4th Principle for the House of Martok.
Teamwork is vital to a success of a Wolf Squad. This cooperative and coordinated fighting is a vital expectation. The Houses Motto “Kill Together or Die Alone!”, stresses the level of importance the House gives teamwork. It is only through team work that a unit can be effective and victorious in battle. The Houses mission is to train fighters in our realm that gain prestige for our realm, and the respect of Dagorhirim, (regionally and in time nationally) in competition at Dagorhir events. It is Martok’s goal that all of Dagorhirim know and respect the HoM and Stormwrath.
Our squads are fighters that have banded together under a leader in a cooperative effort to accomplish this goal. Each Wolf Squad has a leader and these leaders have a leader. (General Martok) And in inter-realm events Martok and the other unit leaders (Ragnar, Acquistapace, Grey Beard, and others) of our realm work together under the coordination of the Realms Leader. (Ra)
Each leader at every level in the realm has stressed the significance of instilling teamwork into the fighters on the field. Accordingly, each Wolf Squad Captain is to actively engage this principle into their squad. Each member of every Squad must understand the role they play in each mission strike. Squads must “Fight Together”, or each member will “Die Alone”.
Teamwork means that each fighter of a Squad understands the tactical expectations of the mission and protects other members of that Squad during that mission. Each squad works as a team with other squads within the House. And in event battles The House is to work with our realms other units to bring Victory and Prestige to the realm.
Squad leaders must stress the importance that when the Squad is killed; a quick fall-back and regrouping the squad is needed. And if a HoM member ends up alone, they are to fall back to the closest squad and help in their assault. This insures a fast pace, and every strike is coordinated. This helps ensure victory.
The goal of teamwork is to finely tune each Wolf Squad. With little to no communication, squads need to run and strike in unison. This takes each squad member to access the strengths and weaknesses of themselves and fellow squad members, and tailor their formations and tactics accordingly. It is crucial that every fighter actively listen and participate in Squad tactics. Each Squad must also have a good knowledge of fellow HoM Squads strengths and weaknesses, and what their strategy and tactics are and how they relate to their own.
I will close by saying that all members are encouraged to remember that while it is good to have pride in our unit, that ultimately every member of Stormwrath is our team mate. We are all just a bunch of people who have came together to play Dagorhir, the sport and lifestyle we all love.
