Hail weary traveler. Come, sit for a spell, share my fire and help yourself to some rabbit. You must be the one I was told of. Please forgive me, but I was told that I would be visited at this time by one who is interested in my tale. I assume that person is you? Good … very well then. Oh before I start, help yourself to some wine. It will help take the ache out of your journey. Consider yourself fortunate, for I do not normally talk of myself.
My name is Gerdaan (jer-dan) I have traveled for much of my life. My parents were good people. My father was a trusted, honorable man and died a warrior's death. My mother is still the healer of my village. Though I have not been there for many years, I know she still lives. My brother well lets say I have no brother! The coward that was once my brother has not been seen for a long time.
I found various mercenary companies to travel with and earn my keep. I was never much for the rank and file soldier’s life. I was best as a forward scout.
You look tired stranger … perhaps I should finish after you rest. Have no fear, I will keep watch ...

Your eyes blink the sleep out. Feeling full of energy your eyes focus, you see a man wiping down his sword from the nights dew. There is a low fire warming water and trail jerk next to you. The man you see is about 5'7 and is heavily built for his size. You can't quite determine his age, but there is some grey in his beard. You see a few seafarer tattoos. His gear is that of a person that is accustomed to moving quickly. Light leather armor, a medium bastard sword, javelin and a simple bow. You could picture this man on the deck of a ship or gliding quietly through a forest. His winter blue eyes have the look of youth and hiding an inside joke, his movements though betray age and expirience.
"There is no need to pretend sleep. Help yourself, to break the night's fast, there is no need to fear. If I wanted you dead you would be waking in the next world. I do apologize, I did drug the wine to make you sleep, it will leave no ill effects other than being well rested. Go on eat ... there is nothing added to it. We will talk more shortly."
