Hey Joplin Peeps!
I'm a member of the St Louis Paranormal Research Society and at tonights meeting, the Joplin Spook Light was brought up as a place of "to do's" before Spring. Seemed to me this is the best source of hitting up some local Joplin peeps to maybe act as a guide to the spook light. So, if anyone in the Joplin Ravenwood area is interested in joining us for a spook hunt, lemmie know. We'd be looking at March / April time frame. Probably a two day trek, Friday / Saturday night kind of ordeal. We'll provide beer and laughs.

Sounds fun! I myself have been twice but never seen the light. My brother has seen it twice though as have many others. I will have to double check the dates though once you guys decide on them because I work and my fiance (Eldrin) works and goes to school so let me know as soon as you are able.

I may not be Joplin crew, but if I get my car up and running in time, and I have the day off, I would love to. We have talked about doing this for a long time.

Hey, thats great! I'll keep you guys informed as the info develops for the trip. It's likely to be a two day affair. Friday and Sat nights.
Orrin, the head guy at SPRS has heard about the Albino farm in Springfield and keeps bugging me about details on it. From what I remember when I was living in Springfield, the Albino farm was just a little bridge / overpass kinda thing where kids drank on the north side of town. Is he thinking of some place different. Do you know what he's talking about?

OK, I'll give you two explinations. The urban legands version, and then the historical facts. (as with any good urban myth, there are countless variations of this story, this is just the one I hear most) North of Springfield, a 1/4 mile past Greenlawn north cemetary, there is a new bridge that covers a small creek line. This bridge is just the modern marker for the more sinster Albino Farm bridge. About 250ft south of this bridge is two ruined stone pialrs standing about 5ft tall. These are the old gate posts to the Albino farm. If you cross the fenceline and proceed down the old carriage path, you will see a stone bridge crossing a tiny creekbed. This is the true Ablino Bridge. At night if you stand atop this bridge you cna hear voices adn cries all around you in the woods. If you proceed along the path, it splits into two directions. One leads you south till you see two stone towers that stand around 25 ft tall. These used ot be the entrance to the Albino cemetary. (some stories have it as an old native amercan burial ground) The other path, will take you west until you find a series of stone buildings, now nothing more than foundations, and a chimeny. The story goes that along time ago, shortly after Springfield was founded, a family of Albinos moved to town. The ignorant towns folk were scared of them, and thought it a disease that they could catch. They ran them out of town, and forced them to live on this property. (some say the gates locked from the outside.) After a few decades the people from sorouding towns, shipped all of the Albinos there. It became a small community. Then one day, a little girl came up missing intown. The townsfolks claimed that the albinos killed and cannabolized her. They attacked them late one night, trapping them all in thier houses and then burning them to the ground, with the people still inside. One child survived by hiding under the small stone bridge. He spent the rest of his life, hiding out there, and killing anyone who came around. Supposedly he still hunts the ground to this day. The truth is it was a much MUCH newer property. Here is a local group that I used to be a meber of. Underground Ozarks They are an urban exploration group. But the page I linked is all about the "Albino Farm" and its real histroy. Complete with links to more fatcs. There is also a gallery of pictures for it. They have many other sites that you may have heard of. The group is based on exploring old and forgoten places, not paranormal stuff, but the locations are mostly popular urban legend locations. I will see if I can find some of my pictures from when Some friends and I went out there. Oh, and thier forum section has a sections for the St. Louis area. Might find things of interest there for you too. The common high school prank is to take your friends out thier in you car, park on the new bridge, and shut off the car(leaving it in gear). You tell tehm the story, and then add that the ghosts are still looking for vengance. If you look closely at the woods nearby, you can see the white figures lurking nearby. Then while everyone is looking around, scream and say you saw one at the front of the car. (leaveing it in gear) You attmept to start the car and freak out when it won't start.

LOL... funny, thanks. Great site btw, thanks for the tip.
Yeah, I didn't remember anything about any super haunted place of albino monsters... I just remember drinking beer up near Greenlawn north.
Urban Exploring is a blast. The SPRS has several different teams, one of which is the "scout team". Basically, it's nothing more than an urban exploring team that runs through some really cool old places. There is a tremendous amount of really neat places to check out in STL. We usually go once a week. If your ever interested in checking someplace out up this way, lemmie know. I'll put you up and be a good host.
