But before you apply that plastidip stuff, you might want to wait till Lizard call either tell you and or show you the right consistency for the stuff.
But yes, that plastidip ... Lowes out here does not carry it! D:
so maybe walmart does? we shall see... >.>

Lowes doesn't? WTF? Seriously... Do you guys have any Home Depots around? I just saw it at our local store just yesterday when I went and bought plywood for some new shields and priced up the lumber for Morannon. I even decided to buy some later. Try looking there, or maybe auto parts stores? I have read that at some Napa, Autozone or Kragen carries it sometimes? There have to be places on the net that sell it. If you guys STILL can't get it let me know ahead of time and I will buy a butt ton and bring it out to Gates.
Ok consistancy... Have you ever painted Warhammer or other similar miniatures? I say WH becuase It's almost like their paints only a little bit thinner. It takes a couple tries but honestly it's better too thin then too thick. Too thin just means multiple coats, too thick... I don't honestly know because I have always made sure it was really thin, sometimes really thin and it was almost too hard to work with. I am sure though it would put a nice plastic rubber coating and might sting when hit with but I can't say from experience, yet. If you are putting it on the striking surface. As for the cross guards or pommels and such, it's the opposite were thicker is better. I say this because the little bumps and holes in blue foam get filled in better this way and you get a smoother final product. Hope this helps and you guys can get that stuff. Now time to get ready for work.

you try 1-2 layers of cloth tape on the striking edge it made my blue foam swords last quite a bit longer... also duct tape on flats...with cloth cover of course

I used to use athletic tape for awhile but it ended up failing me a few times and new weapons had to be rebuilt after only a few days. One was after its first practice so I ventured away from it and haven't looked back yet! I have only seen Plastidip fail on me twice and one of those times it was on a red so... The other was after the sword was blasted against the sharp edge of a metal trashcan, like 20 times lol

I don't like athletic tape on the striking edge either. It doesn't have as much give as the foam but since the foam is attached to the tape it will rip when the tape gets pushed past its limits.

Maybe I'm wrapping it wrong or using crappy tape because it happened every time.

Oooh...I've just started "sanding" blue camp foam...YES...Sanding. I use 60 grit, and a lighter to get rid of the fuzzy bits that are left behind. It. really works well if you want a completely rounded edge, IE...I encompass the entire (fiberglass) core with camp foam (including the handle) and sand the square block down to make a nice perfecty round handle. My next thought is to use a Dremmel tool to carve designs...need to buy one first!
