As far as I'm concerned, we have outgrown the need and use of the UCM Battle Club. My reasons are as follows:
Any and all monies supplied by the University to furnish weapons making supplies (duct tape, foam, cores, covers) will make those weapons forged with these materials subject to the whim of the University. That means, the University owns the weapons, and we can use them as long as we pay out of pocket to maintain them. But in the end, the weapons still belong the the University. Same goes for the sewing machine.
The University supplies us with a place to meet and fight, granted. ONLY if we adhere to specific standards: cannot fight on the lawns if they are wet, or we'll get kicked off; have to use the gym with the concrete floor (if some other sport team isn't using it already) because the Judo Club is apparently more important than us; things like that.
We (I) started this club so that we could take advantage of the privelages of a Student Organization (reserved facilities, decent funding, public notice), however, we've been shafted for an entire YEAR on the reservation of facilities, our funding has gone unfiled because we can't use the money for a damn thing, and our public notice? A booth in the involvement fair and looking for favors from the SCA Club on the use of THEIR stage time (because we're not important enough to have our own stage time). When we fight outside, you can hardly see us from the road, and if we fight inside, we're shut away from the public eye altogether.
We are not getting ANYTHING accomplished while still operating under the wing of the University. I say, finish the school year as planned, and after Gates we just ditch the University and go fight at Grover Park where Centrawoven's progenator originally fought. Yes, this means that come Fall and Winter, we'll be fighting outside, but so does every other Dagorhir realm in the country. Dress warm.
What are your thoughts? Feel free to post as well as vote. I'll leave this topic open (and stickied) for one month. I'll talk to the President, Secretary, and participating Council members at the end of that month (it'll be March 5) to make the final decision.
