Okay so I had my eye on this cheapo wineskin at walmart, seeing as carrying a drink on me at all times is a must at Ragnarok (or any camping event for that matter). I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make it look more period. Hiding the icon is a given, but I wasn't sure about the bright red color and plastic bottle top. Ideas? Suggestions? Or maybe it's fine as it is other than the icon? *shrug*..

Get a mug at a thriftstore or estate auction

I had thought about a mug, but I figured a wineskin full of water at my side would be easier to carry than a full mug in my hands when roaming around Ragnarok when I'm not fighting.

Slap a fat hand print on it and the clan symbol. It's more period than the camel packs I see out at Rag. lol
ALSO don't put anything that's not water in it unless you want it flavored that way later. Those things suck to clean out and wash away old flavors.

Indeed they do. I have one I'm going to ensure I have on hand for while I'm fighting.. elsewise I have my mugs & goblets (for more formal affairs ) Oberon's suggestion is a good one. I'm hoping to do a patchwork leather case to go around mine with some of my scrap leather. I just know I won't have time before this Rag due to all the craziness of last minute "zomg I'm going now!?"

I like the idea of painting symbols on it. Make a fur and faux-leather patchwork pouch for it, then paint your Drago-clan symbol onit... it is beautiful!
For the top... not much you can do.

you can just sew cloth patches around it instead of fur

Paint something over the stamp. Otherwise, it's satisfactorily period. The stopper looks fine. Just pretend it's made of bone instead of plastic. The design, including the stopper, has been traditional in Spain for a very, very long time.
BTW, don't let it sit empty in the sun. The plastic lining might soften and stick together.

if you make a cover for it just make a clouth hood for the top so as when you are not drinking from it noone can see the stoper

I have one of those. Its just ten years older though. Never use it for events though, too much specialness.

I have one of those too. Mine has a glass bottle that goes in it... I just have to make a new cover for it.... lol. And I'm not over keen on carrying it around for fear of breakage...
