Ok, im sure this is hot topic but, we have had much debate about this and i would like to know. What is the flex rule for Spears? is there one, is it 90 or 45. I have heard that there is none for spears, thats its 90, or 45. So just what is it?

It's 90 - spears and javelins cannot flex past 90 degrees, whereas swung blues & reds cannot flex past 45 degrees.

4.1.11.3 - The shaft or blade of a red or blue weapon may not flex greater than 45 degrees when the weapon is swung in the plane/direction of the striking surface.
4.1.11.4 - The shaft of a spear or javelin may not flex greater than 90 degrees under reasonable testing stress.
My assumption is that it's for game balance - since you can use a javelin as a spear.. it'd be unfair to let javelins flex 90 degrees and spears only 45.

I'm not disagreeing with that, I'm just saying 90 degrees in unsafe.

I slightly disagree, since spear contact is head on - the allotment for flex can attribute less of an impact on the person who's getting stabbed.
Now if a spear were swung - then hell yes that'd be unsafe.. but stabbing I think it's just fine. Kinda like when a javelin hits - when it makes contact it'll flex and reduce the initial impact. Same mechanics would apply to spears I'd think.

Valid statement Krystal and I argue with, Rag XXI Grom spear got passed as a red. lol
Just saying if we are going to take in that all weapons are wielded by noobs 90 is insane if swung.
I do think that is an individual case though. I will also say I've never seen a spear break while thrusting. Only when it's be stepped on or damaged before hand.
EDIT: Rag number fixed

The real question is:
Why would you want a spear with more than 45* of flex?

Perhaps someone with some training in the Chinese spear style

Then they want a 40 degree flex round-head speedglaive, yes? So they can hit people with the "shaft" of the "spear"?
Or maybe a min back-end, max-length, near-max-flex quarterstaff?

Seriously, a 90 degree flex on a spear would suck. I'll take landing my shots where I place them any day.

People want super flexy spears and huge javelin heads, but they want to outlaw backshields because it's an effective tactic they didn't think up. What's next, someone suggesting we adopt a point system for armor?
