I'll have to get a piece of square fiberglass sometime and try it out. But getting it online is expensive because of the huge shipping and handling cost of a package that size.

I'm pretty sure Edhellen will sell it to you in 4 foot lenghts, which is cheaper to ship. I love this stuff. It makes strong hitting, reliable weapons that last forever(until the foam wears out). K

Funny thing about Edhellen. A lot of people complain about their building techniques or whatever, but the fact that they'll sell the materials to you so you can design your own sword is really cool. I honestly can't think of anywhere to get a bunch of those materials except the Edhellen site. GG Soth. PS: I will advocate the purchase of their shields forever. Either buy an Edhellen or build one with blue foam.

My only gripe is finding pieces that are OVER 4' in length because I like making polearms. A masterpiece I made a few years back was with two pieces of kitespar doubled up and its just a tad bulky in the hands but has held up very well over the past few years and multiple events. Shipping on pieces that length suck royally

Don't use square fiberglass for POlearms. Use BandShoppe poles. THey are fiberglass equivalent to PVC. Same size and weight, no flex, no break. I use it exclusivly. I have 2 8'6" glaives with stabbing tips and 4' of striking surface. They rule. I've ever had a core problem and am just getting to where the foam need to be replaced. I use Edhellen sheild edge foam for the striking surfaces. K

Yeah, I need to find something a little longer than 4' because when I use a straight longsword it is a bit over five feet. A veteran of my unit, Warlord Kain, once said that the longest sword you can use effectively should be no taller than your chin. I like to keep my straight reds somewhere in the collarbone to chin height. I'll probably have to be smart and actually save up money for a square core that will last.

Its all in how you make'em.

He was talking about the traditional longsword. Not spears or glaives etc. This length gives you max length with the control to still get undercuts and odd angles.

I have a red sword that is 6'3" long. It's cored with an edhellen fiberglass corethat measures like 3/4"x 5/8". It rules. Anyone can use any leghth two hander they can learn to control "with effectiveness". I can kill 2 maybe 3 sheildmen at a time with my glaive or a real long red sword. It really depends on you team situation. If I'm on my own, I like to use a minimum lenght red. It's just faster to block with. If I am with my unit, I use my 8 1/2' glaive. We fight in a sheild wall(the best in the west) and I just hang out behind the line causing everyone grief. K

My red SWORDS are usually min length because I am a fairly short guy. Polearms and glaives are a different story though. I think I have pics of my 3 going on 4 year old Glaive or "War Scythe" as it is so lovingly referred to as.
